SAYUN SIMUNG
Sayun Simung, Tayal people, which is one of the indigenous people in Taiwan.
She graduated with a degree in Radio and Television from the National Taiwan University of the Arts in 2011, after which she worked as a reporter for the first Indigenous Television in Asia during 2005-2008, and then she served as a documentary production coordinator for the Public Television Service during 2009-2011.
Because of years of working experiences, Sayun decided to return to her community (Sqoyaw) in 2012 to shoot Tayal culture that was about to disappear. She also pays attention to the indigenous people’s rights and the lands issues.
It’s rarely hearing the voices from indigenous, then Sayun established the Indigenous Film Academy in Taiwan in August 2022.
She hopes it would gather more young indigenous filmmakers to share and learn from each other and speak for their own.
